Successful Garden Party!

Thanks to all who responded to my request about the garden party!  To let
everyone know, I had the torches staked around the perimeter of the area
where we were going to sit and eat.  Citronella candles were placed on each
table.  I covered the food with cheesecloth and some nifty little gadgets I
found at a local drug store that looked like little tents that were
designed to cover casserole dishes.  All must have worked, because not one
insect even buzzed around any of the bouquets on the tables nor the large
fruit centerpiece on the buffet.  I could go on and on, but it would be
DEFINITELY off topic!

What I think REALLY worked was the surprise downpour that came about a
half-hour before the first guest came and lasted about an hour after
tapering off into sprinkles!  Rain chances were only 30% that day, with
temps in the low 90s.  Luckily I had only placed the tables and chairs out;
no food, flowers, or tablecloths yet!  My mom's guests all laughed/talked
and they sat around in the air conditioned living room listening to jazz
and drinking the "hooch" I had concocted before moving outside.  The rain
ended up cooling off the air, the insects were kept at bay successfully
until nightfall, and I don't think anything could've held off those
mosquitos much longer after that.

No dryer sheets were used (ha! ha!), but Skin-So-Soft was offered to those
who wanted it.  Benedryl for those who decided not to use it and ended up
with a bite or two (including one woman who sat primly and sniffed the
whole time and ended up with a big welt in the middle of her forehead!)
The flies couldn't touch the food because of the various coverings.  Again,
thanks to all who responded.  It ended up being a great party!
