It might not be the plants themselves that attracted the ants but if
the
plants had aphids the ants would come. The ants "farm" the aphids because
of the honeydew they excrete. Just a thought. I know that I have found ants
on many plants for that reason.
/ Valerie Lowery had suggested that. She says her dahlias tend to have
aphids on the under-side of the leaves. I checked there yesterday for
aphids but saw none but then my eyesight isn't always exactly perfect.
Will put in a request for Val to look too.
