J&P periodically call me at work with their "specials." I've learned over
the years to only buy perennials by mail order from certain people, but they
caught me in the fall, when I don't feel so overwhelmed...
The offer was for three oriental poppies: the dusky purple one mentioned in
previous posts, a white one with orange tips, and I can't remember the third
one, but again, it was distinct, not just plain white, red, orange, or pink.
"Sure," I said, "send 'em to me." They were not cheap.
I get the poppies and all three are in the SAME BAG, UNMARKED. I was
fuming. I don't just plant helter skelter, there is a method to my madness
and garden plans. So I sunk them in my cutting garden to wait and see.
Two years later: Two have died. One is living and has about 6 flowers this
year. Thankfully it was the purple that survived. In the meantime, I'd
found another source for the white with orange picotee -- and it's name is
'China Boy' for those who look for it. I got 3 good sized plants from
VanBorgandien.
I had a similar experience ordering delphinium from J & P -- just say "no"!
Sorry you asked?

For mine is a little old fashioned garden where the flowers come
together to praise the Lord and teach all who look upon them to do
likewise.
