Hi Barb,
I am in zone 4, Minnesota, so unfortunately they are not perennials here.
Many of the local nurseries sell them in 4 packs for about $1.50, so I
generally stock up there. I have been enticed by some of the seed varieties
but as you know they take a long time to reach the flowering stage and my
plant stand only has so much room, so unless I'm lusting after a color I
can't buy at the nursery I generally don't bother with seed anymore.
I never considered it to be a difficult plant to grow, but then you're in
quite a different climate. Don't be envious-I can think of LOTS of things
you can grow that are impossible for me. Maybe your seedling will thrive and
you will prove the florist wrong.
Patty
