I have grown this buddlea in my Oregon garden for about 8 years and have
lost one in a severe winter here (about 0 degrees) -- but here it could be
wet was the problem as much as anything else.
Mine gets tree size 12-15 feet indeed and branches at the base as large as
2-3". I cut the plant down to about 2 feet, as best I can, with a saw in
early spring here. It is now about 6' at this point in June and won't
flower until July probably.
They really are pretty and the bees adore them. The flower type is
different than the typical buddlea: the flowers are gradations of globes
(the largest at the bottom of the flower and they get smaller as they move
up the flower panicle) -- kinda poodlesque!

For mine is a little old fashioned garden where the flowers come
together to praise the Lord and teach all who look upon them to do
likewise.
