Dear Louise,
I get rust on my Campanula persicifolia occasionally and, like you I don't
like using chemicals if not necessary. So I have left it, not sprayed and
made sure to pick up all the foliage at the end of the season and to apply a
heavy mulch of our own garden compost in the Spring. Not only does it seem
to halt the rust, but the campanulas certainly seem to like it.
