Re: Rain, what's rain

hey you guys out there with no rain-

I can only tell you how I managed with my garden the past two summers when
there was no rain to be seen or felt and enforced water restrictions in the
subdivision.

All my beds are raised and when I was able to water I watered for a very long
period of time (sometimes 3 hours) then wasn't able to water again for 10
days. Some of the plants didn't look all that well, and certainly didn't put
on the normal show, but they did survive. I believe that this encourages the
roots to grow deeper and require less surface watering.

Another thing I did was cut down my larger perennials by 1/3....I'm not sure
what effect this had - maybe giving the plants less stress and less foliage
to need water for. I sacrificed blooms but the plants faired well enough.

Good luck to you guys out there with no rain....I will wish hard for you and
cross my fingers.
