sedum and sooty mold

Hi all-
Just this week I've noticed blackened lower leaves on my sedum Autumn
Joy. Today, I received the following from the National Gardening
Assoc. Do you think it could be the same thing? I'm not familiar with
this mold.

SOOTY MOLD ON GARDENIAS -- Southeast, Southwest
Gardenias provide fragrant white flowers in summer, but they also can be
troubled by the sooty mold fungus. This black mold grows on honeydew,
the waste produced by sucking insects such as aphids, mealybugs, and
scale. To wash off the mold and control the insects, use a strong stream
of water to dislodge them from the plant. You can also spray
insecticidal
soap to kill the pests. Once the insects are gone, the mold will stop
growing.

Any thoughts?

be "bathing suit, raincoat, sweatshirt, bathing suit, raincoat..."
