Anne -- Your garden is an inspiration! Thanks for sharing.
I have echinops planted with Russian sage and that looks great, too. No room
to add Eryngium now, but I'm going to use the three together at the next
opportunity!
Maybe with some purple coneflower. Dreamy!

Janis, I have a very tall Eryngium in a bed with two clumps of
Echinops. They are great together! Can't remember the specific
name of the Eryngium, but it's at least 5 feet, needs some support
(and nothing else -- no water or fertilizer!). I think it was
supposed to be a biennial or short-lived, but this is the fourth
summer and it's still going strong.
I love these thistly plants with liatris, echinacea, daylilies,
grasses, asters, sedum, rudbeckia, and threadleaf coreopsis -- this
particular bed (one of the few that gets sun here) is looking good
right about now and will go strong for the rest of the summer, with
a little judicious trimming & deadheading.
I have some shorter Eryngium with roses & lavender -- wonderful
combination!
