Re: Chocolate Cosmos

I am surprised at the negative feelings about this plant. In UK it's
considered rather desirable because of the rich dark colouring of
both the foliage and the flowers. It seems to be on the borderline of
hardiness for us, sometimes survives the winter and sometimes
doesn't. It comes very easily from cuttings and makes a good bushy
floriferous plant in its first season. I try to take one or two
cuttings in late summer each year and keep it going very easily that
way. I don't think it sets seed but once you've got one plant you
shouldn't need seed as you can bulk up so well from cuttings. Here I
tend to treat Cosmos atrosanguineus just as I would treat border
Penstemons which are also on the borderline of hardiness here.
