RE: Perennial plant of the year 2001/Daylilies - Hyperion

I recently ordered some daylilies from Oakes in TN. Their catalogue claims
that "Happy Returns" is as excellent as Stella, but a pale yellow. It
supposedly repeats, as evidenced by the name. I ordered 3 plants, so I'll
have first hand knowledge soon. ;-)

Since were on the subject of daylilies, I must plug my hands-down favorite,
the old cultivar, 'Hyperion.' The plant, with flower scapes, reaches about
4', but does not require staking. The flowers are a lemon yellow and
release a wonderful, somewhat exotic, fragrance at night. I would go out
every night in the summer, for the 4-6 weeks this plant was in bloom, just
to deadhead the flowers and inhale the scent! Wonderful, wonderful plant.

As a side note, mine is backed with agastache foeniculum (sp?) and the two
are in bloom for weeks and weeks together in a sunny location. If you've
tried other agastaches without success (the hybrids, which tend to die out
in my climate, from wet or cold), try a. foeniculum. Reseeds politely and
has lived over 3-4 years for me.
