I have to agree with you about Hyperion, which is certainly all I would like
a daylily to be, unless you are one of those daylily nuts that wants
multiple colours, ruffles and all those other bits and pieces that look
great on a show bench but can't be distinguished when you get about fifteen
feet from the plant. The building our office used to be in was surrounded
by plantings of Hyperion and it always looked good, even when not in bloom.
I also have to agree with you about Agastache foeniculum, which I have a
number of specimens of in my garden-all in the white variety. I really ought
to get some purple as well. The only problem I have with it is a slight
tendency to wilt and yellow during our ongoing drought.
It doesn't seem to suffer from insect pests and has a slight (to my nose
anyway) odour of licorice which I find quite pleasant.
