Thanks to all for your suggestions re my front yard problem. Have been away
from the computer for a couple of weeks, and found 257 posts...took me a
while to read them all.
Gene..looked at the photos! Orchids!!! I'm drooling with envy. Have never
even thought of them for outdoor gardening. Any of them that will grow just
north of Toronto that you know of?
Val.. Hostas under my walnuts have been rather stunted. Ferns all gave up
and died. Impatiens seemed to thrive. Will try your suggestions for coleus
and foxglove. Thought I might also try some pulmonaria. All I can do is try.
Marg...will check out the site you suggested. Haven't found it so far but
will look again later
Chris...have some spiderworts that got a bit crowded last year, so will move
a few under the walnuts and see what happens. Will also move the hostas
around. You suggested variegated don't do as well in these conditions, and
guess what most of mine are in this spot. They'll get a new home this year,
and will move the green ones to take their place. I do have a few money
plants as you suggested but for me they're rather "sparse" is the gentlest
word I can think of. Will try your other suggestions as well. I've found
that if I move plants that are suffering under the walnuts before they kick
the dust there is a 50-50 chance they'll live in my back garden.
Thanks to all for your help
Lillian
