I thought daylilies were part of hemerocallis and not lilium.  I'm not
well-versed on my botany, but the distinction was made on another forum I
belong to that discusses lilium.  They insist that to be considered a true
lily, the bulb must be formed of tightly formed scales.  Thus plants with
"lily" in the common name, like peruvian lilies, plantain lilies, or even
daylilies, don't necessarily belong to the group.  The people on the lilium
forum will not discuss these plants.

I learned the hard way.
