I've just come across the information I received from a
nursery where I bought some Alstroemerias last year, and he
confirms that it is a good idea to pull out flower stems
from the root. This is what he says:
"Old flowering stems should be pulled from the root to
encourage new shoots to develop".
Hope this helps whoever asked the question originally. I
bought seven of the new Princess and Little Princess
Alstroemerias last year, and they've all come through the
winter okay, which I'm delighted about. Hopefully, I'll
have lots of those flower stems to yank out come the summer.
