Hi, Pat...
I usually cut mine back when I see new growth at the base, which would be
sometime in April. Since we've had a Z.7 fall/winter, excluding a little cold
stuff in Dec. and Jan., mine are leafing out now, so I'll probably think
about cutting them down over this coming weekend, which is supposed to be in
the 60's again.
I'm wondering about removing mulch, or much of it, this early in Z.5a...does
anyone else in the midwest have concerns about this? The weather and the
perennials say it's the end of April and we still could get some nasty
weather...last April was warm and May was frigid. Any ideas?
