My cotinus is planted with caryopteris 'Dark Knight,' (blue) and amsonia
hubrechtii (feather, gold fall foliage), annual snaps 'Red Rocket' and
scabiosa ochuler---- (pale yellow pincushion) for fall effect; near a pale
pink rose for summer.
I just saw a garden show where they had the blue dwarf (ha!) buddlea near a
cotinus and the blue and burgandy were stunning together. I moved a blue
buddlea behind my cotinus a few weeks ago ;-)
Also saw a companion planting of cotinus with pink japanese anemones, I also
intend to "borrow" this idea.
Please take note, for those of you who have not grown this incredible plant
before, the burgandy gets very intense and nearly translucent in the fall --
the bush literally glows and all who visit the garden in fall comment on how
it is the most striking plant of the front garden.
