Re: camellia question

Hello, Camellia Lovers!

What I've used to acidify the soil for my camellias (4 so far; the tallest
is almost 4 ft and 3 ft wide) is iron sulfate (or ferrous sulfate, I
think). Isn't the acidifier in Miracid some sort of aluminum sulfate? and
while that works for making hydrangeas bluer, it made my rhododendrons very
unhappy. So I switched to the iron for the broadleaved evergreens awhile
back and they have done exceedingly well this spring, blooming their heads
off in spite of last summer's drought here. (Hope it's not a dying gasp to
propagate themselves! :) The iron's a little hard to find in hardware stores
but a well-stocked nursery should carry it in bags in the section with
bonemeal and Holly-tone (which might also be iron, but the plain f.s. is
probably cheaper). The brand I found is Dragon. Hope this helps.
