Yes, you can put all sorts of paper on the compost - old letters, envelopes
(as long as there isn't a plastic window in it). I even tear up and put on
my credit card slips. Have been doing so for a year or so, and it all
composts down beautifully. Your shredded paper should be okay, but if you
can, screw up whatever you want to put in (this keeps some air in the paper,
thus helping the composting process) and don't put too much paper in at
once, but at this time of year, that shouldn't be a problem, because you
must be putting lots of weeds, kitchen scraps, spring tidying-ups on the
heap as well now.
