Hello Janet,
    When I receive wholesale plants of hepatica the foliage is usually removed to
prevent mildew and rot during shipment. I have not noticed any set-back to the
plants. This is usually done when they are not in active growth. When
photographing my plant in the garden each late winter, I trim the dead foliage
away to clear the way for the emerging bloom, tidy things up for a good photo. I
do leave any foliage that looks as though it has life in it.... not dried out by
winter's winds. I do not feel that selective snipping will hurt the plant.
