I know I'm way behind on the discussion here, but I used Sluggo last year. I
can't totally vouch for it yet (and hey, I have to say, I did love putting
regular slugbait pellets down and seeing the slimed dead ones lying around
the plant victim the next morning...; you don't get that satisfaction with
Sluggo).
Sluggo kills slugs by causing them to quit eating, so it takes the slugs
some amount of time (a day or two?) to die. HOWEVER, the best thing about
Sluggo is that it's not poisonous to dogs, cats, frogs, or anything else,
since it biodegrades into two common garden chemicals which I can't
immediately recall--iron and phosphorous perhaps.

I've used an Escar-go like product called "sluggo" and found that it
works really well. I say go for it even though it is expensive...
