Dear Paul,
Whilst you sit and ponder when winter will go away be cheered by knowing that
the entire Northeast is also in your predicament. This week I watched the
famed Home Depot crew placing plants outdoors in weather that was just at the
freezing point. When asked why, the answer was that that is where they
belong. Greenhouses are obliged to heat much more than most late March days
and we gardeners are still slipping around on ice.
When buying any packaged cannas, gladiolus, etc take care that you examine at
once. A great many of these summer bulbs are now arriving frozen and damaged.
Sppring will arrive. It will come one day and summer will come the next.
In our part of the country we are always praying for a few spring days to
enjoy before the black flies arrive.
I, too, have plants in the fridge. Good luck to us all.
