Re: Victory Garden

The best parts of Victory Garden in that past have been the episodes that
showed or taught me something I didn't already know. I fear that replacing
Roger Swain with a landscaper may take the show off in a direction I'm not
interested in or reduce the show too much to a design and lawncare program,
with little emphasis on plants, especially new or underused ones. In this
respect, Roger Swain may have somewhat run his course as well, but I suspect
this may have been due more to the common-denominator interests of the
producers.

The most tedious episodes in the past have been the ones in which the second
host for the day went to an exotic clime and did a travelogue for 15 minutes
instead of a garden tour, followed by another 15 minutes of Marion and a
restuarant chef. Fortunately her home cooking vignettes are brief.

VG may need some freshening up. I'm just not confident they've selected the
right new blood. Imagine instead getting a Tony Avent to guest host a few
episodes, maybe followed by Dan Hinckley. Then the two guys in Maine whose
names escape me at the moment. There are a lot of other people with good
presence and great breadth and depth of knowledge who could make that program
shine. How about a few episodes with our own Claire, Marge, Paul, and Gene
Bush? I'd put that in my date book to tune in.
