Curious if anyone has experience with variegated ginger? (alpinia
sanderae from New Guinea)

On a recent trip to Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory in
Milwaukee, WI- I noticed a stand of this near a pond. (I think that was
the plant- not many plant markers there-) I assume it is tropical and
not hardy here in zone 5 IL. What I would like to know is how quickly it
grows and a source for it. Since once again DH has volunteered my yard
for a tour this summer, thinking it would be nice to have - if by the
end of July it would be noticeable.

Yesterday I was at a local garden centers open house. (Sids, for
those in my area) I promised myself I would not buy anything--- Huh! I
was enchanted by a flowering campanula- wonder bells blue. (guess when
you are desperate to see a flower, anything looks great! I am under 12
inches of snow this morning) It is supposed to be hardy to zone 4. So of
course it jumped right into my cart and came home. Of course they claim
it is not an overpowering spreader and blooms most of the season. Anyone
with experience on that plant?

Another thing that came home with me--An 8 ft growing tube that
holds a 48 flat of plants with a drip watering system to fit it.
Basically it is an enlarged version of the plastic pouches that have
been around for a few years. Not sure where it is going- up and around a
tree, along the pond edge or ?
