RE: Blue flowers

Barb,
I have managed to keep M. betonicifolia alive 3 years in a row before it
turned toes up. I wanted to pitch a tent out there when it flowered so I
wouldn't miss a minute of those incredible blue blooms. M. x sheldonii only
lasted one season for me. They are worth walking across burning coals to
see. You are so lucky you can just "pop" over to Longwood. I have
forwarded your note to my son who lives in Chadds Ford so he won't miss
them. Thanks, Marilyn

Marilyn-
Just yesterday the local paper did a quick mention of the blue poppies
(meconopsis) in bloom in the Exhibition Hall over at Longwood Gardens. The
color
in the photo was stunning. Apparently they typically die when the
temperatures
exceed 80 degrees, so it's not surprising that they were shipped from a
nursery in
Alaska! And they'll be blooming for only about 3 weeks so I'd better hurry
up and
pop over there for a peek in person! If the color in person is anything
like the
photo, they'll be beautiful.
