"Blue" geranium

In my garden, 'Brookside' far and away outbloomed Johnson's last year. Johnson's may be getting "the boot" if this keeps up.

Chantal,
Our local hardy Geranium expert insists that G. 'Buxton's Variety' a.k.a.
Buxton's Blue is sterile! So if someone is selling you Buxton's Blue seed,
it is actually the species G. wallichianum. She also insists the same for
'Johnson's Blue'. I can't find any information to substantiate this claim,
but she is SO positive. I know we have discussed the fertility of Johnson's
Blue on this list before but I don't think we have discussed the virtues of
Buxton's Blue that I can recall.
Personally, I purchased some Buxton's Blue seed, from Chilterns I think.
They didn't bloom last year, but should bloom this summer. Then at least I
will know if the plants I have look right.
I have been meaning to write to Robin Parer about this. It would be
interesting to get her take on the subject. In the meanwhile, I say if you
have a true blue Geranium and it looks beautiful - just enjoy it! :)

Thank you, yes I have had the awful Clematis wilt. But, my vines have
always recovered from it to bloom another day. I hope I didn't yank the
durandii out too soon. I'll never know now will I? :(

Hi to you all,

> Have you seen the book "A Book of Blue Flowers" by Robert Geneve?

I don't know this book and as soon as I find it, I'll have a look .

About the blue MECONOPSIS : of course, it's a must!, but now that I'm living
in the south of France, I must forget it. It's very difficult to grow and
die as soon as it had flowered. I saw lot of them in Ireland. My climate is
too windy and dry for them.

GERANIUMS : Oh yes, they are very good plants. The wallichianum 'Buxton's
Variety' is so free-flowering and for a long period. Can you confirm me that
it's true to seed?

DELPHINIUM : I could'not help taking with me the delphinium 'Alince
Artindale' and I know, for sure, it's gonna suffer in summer here. This is a
pure beauty, double in shades of blue and grey. Difficult to find, difficult
to grow.

CLEMATIS : I don't know clematis x durandii. Do you think I can grow it in
my area which is mediterranean but with some freezing days down to -5 /-100C
?
Perhaps , Marilyn, your clematis died because of the"clematis wilt" (I hope
it's the true name of this disease) It happens suddenly, the leaves become
brownish, and the clematis dies within a couple of weeks. The only thing to
do is to cut it to the ground, water the area with Bordeaux mixture and
sometimes it can regrow. I did it and it worked. this disease is said to
attack almost the big flowered clematis not the species ones.

ANEMONE CORONARIA : I never succeeded with them, but I'll give a try here in
the south, because it's warmer and I've heard they do like plenty of warmth

VERONICAS : Here, in france, we don't know any of these cultivars you
mentioned. Perhaps, there is something to do with this.
