Skyler and All,
The Boston Show lacked the Beverley Nichols impersonation but we did have an
actress and another garden writer on stage.
A very good actress played the part of Celia Thaxter and her island garden
was exactly reproduced from photographs. Childe Hassam's paintings were
reproduced and the actress was dressed as a photograph of Celia Thaxter.
Most New England gardeners know Celia Thaxter and her book on gardening on an
island off the coast of Massachusetts. For others she was a contemporary of
writers and artists of the turn of the century with her art being in the
garden.
Unlike Seattle we had no tea and crumpets and unfortunately no chairs so were
forced to sit on the floor. Despite these drawbacks it was a superb
impersonation and seems to be the thing for spring shows.
There were nine million people there, maybe ten million but twas fun.
For the rest of the country who do not know New England, there is a
construction project called "The Big Dig". It is so expensive and is taking
so long that there are now books written and pic books on the market. I
mention this as it is in the way of the best auto route to the show so you
get two shows on your trip. May it be over one day in my lifetime.
