Hurray Claire -- I almost suggested this plant too because it is now my VERY FAVORITE rudbekia. The flowers are smaller than you are used to seeing, but the plant is taller and very strong -- didn't need staking in my windy garden. The flowers are just "sweet" if the guys will pardon me for being so scentimental on the subject ;-) And I have already experienced polite reseeding so I will move them around the garden.

Steve,
Also try Rudbeckia triloba which is a native plant. This is much taller than
Goldsturm and blooms into October, giving you a longer season. It is
biennial and seeds itself reliably, you will never lose it.
Also try Rudbeckia Indian Summer as this is much more beautiful than
Goldstrum but also biennial. I have not lost this plant since introduced, it
is often perennial here.
The thing with Goldsturm, don't buy seeds, you do need plants, is that it is
perennial very reliably. Goldsturm needs water to do well, the others
perform without watering.
Rudbeckia triloba is a bushy plant with millions of small brown eyed susans
and is sold by Gardens North, a Canadian firm with lots of zone 4 seeds.
