RE: Ballota nigra cultivar

Cheryl,
Not to worry, I have grown Ballota nigra for about 10 years in the same
spot in the front rockery and I can vouch for it's polite habit. It is a
clumper and does not seed about or spread by underground runners, etc. I
wish it would - because it is very hard to start by cuttings which rot
easily. The stems are like pipe cleaners and I find it is better to rub off
the "fuzz" before sticking the cuttings. It has wonderfully soft leaves &
is soft gray ( like Lamb's Ear but is not floppy) and makes a nice rounded
mass about 2 1/2 ft across. I hope I can find the cultivar you mentioned
here in the near future!

One plant stood out - Ballota nigra - Prancing Jester - a variagated black
horehound. Several google searchs later, I found some info - must be fairly
new to commerce. I'd love to add it, but adding a member of the mint
family!?! to the garden as a ground cover sounds dangerous.
