Both the above products are made the same way, both are naturally occurring

Vermiculite is made from mica, and Perlite is made from volcanic glass.
Both have high water content and the minerals are heated up until they
explode like popcorn-so to speak.
asbestice is also a naturally occurring mineral, it has a very small, glass
like structure that is safe when not air born but when breathed in it becomes
carcinogenic.
Mica and asbestos forming minerals occur with in the same rock formations --
so that during the process of making vermiculite asbestos is formed and can
be breathed in.
