Well, not in my part of the country-except peatmoss and wood dust. we never
had no blasted volcanos except the black hills and that soil is like fire
place ash.
The fine clean sand is a good idea as long as you can keep it from getting to
dry, I use a commercial seed mix my self, was using Peters professional until
the wholesaler dropped it and replaced it with another that is not near as
good.
What ever works -- what I want to avoid is weeds, damping off and drying out.
No weeds this year, some drying out under the lamps in the basement and some
damping off of depliunums and dianthus and balloon flower. The Dianthus and
the delphiniums for me are best started out side instead of indoors.
I started some things too early again this year and have flowering already:
Geranium sanguineum 'Vision,' Polygonum affine 'Magic carpet,' Agastache
scrophulariifolia 'White Licorice' plus a Dianthus brought in on another
pot.
Do not want flowers inside because the pants take up to much room but once
spring comes I have so much work that its harder to take care of small
seedlings -- but I will be sowing seeds every week or so until late August.
Paul
