Sounds wonderful- I haven't been to RBG in years (used to live in Niagara
Falls, NY).

Seems to me last year Walter in Bucks County was talking about trips into
southern Ontario looking for plants. Check out the Royal Botanical Gardens
in Hamilton. (about 1 hour from Buffalo) The auxilliary have a plant sale
each May. They publish a list of the various plants that will be sold,
beginning usually in April. Also an inspector is on site for our American
friends so taking them home is not a problem. It does pay to go early if you
can. Line-ups to cash out move quite quickly and there are always
interesting people around you to chat with. Sale is on Thursday May 1 and
Saturday May 3 mornings only.
The web site is www.rbg.ca, under "events"

# 1 I save all the coffee grounds, and we're coffee drinkers. Folks I know,
who will remain nameless go to Starbucks and restaurants and collect the
coffee grounds. Dry them out a bit; spread them on a newspaper in sun and
they dry rather quickly. Then spread a thin layer around the base of the
vulnerable plant(s), maybe an inch wide or so and VOILA! No more slugs.
Guaranteed! Except, I have no experience with these banana guys.
# 2 I keep three spray bottles( Windex type ) at three different areas of
the
garden. You could use one or twenty, whatever suits your fancy. The
critical part is what's in the bottle. 1 part ammonia and 4/5 parts water.
When one sees a slug, get the spray bottle, shake gently, aim , hit the slug
and VOILA it's a writhing , shrinking goner. For some gardeners this brings
great pleasure. I might also mention since the ammonia is a form of
fertilizer, it does not harm the plants if a spritz gets on your favorite.
A combo of the two has worked extrememly well here in my zone 6b garden in
eastern Pa. Questions and comments invited. Tomorrow, the excellent method
to rid the other thugs; the Voles.
