grass ? question

This is probably off topic but I need a name.
Every year in the garden centers, they sell a carex-type plant for
container plantings.
It grows to about 18" tall, spiky (in fact one tag I found only says
'Spikes').
Just green, no variegation. In my climate they are usually annuals but
if the winter isn't too wet, I have had them winter over.
Does anyone know the botanical name for this plant?
I need it for an article and I've spent more time than believable today
trying to find it.
