Re: Most impressive plant/ Oakleaf hydrangea

Hello Isabelle,
Finding something seems to be a large part of gardening. Sometimes the pursuit is greater than the reality after you catch it.... but no in this case. Oakleaf hydrangea rates at the top of my list of shrubs... native or non-native. Just keep looking around... or mail order. You can get some decent size plants in mail order from specialty growers. The shrubs respond very well to slow release fertilizer and a bit of extra moisture.

I was fortunate enough to get cuttings of oak leaf hydrangea about six years ago, from someone on a
gardening email list; he was in Georgia, I'm in NYS; only one survived, and that hasn't yet blossomed but has
seemed to get stronger and bigger each year so far. I'd like to get some more, but they're hard to find in
nurseries here.
