Since your new garden will be very large, you may want to consider giving
it substance and structure by adding some shrubbery or shrub-like
perennials. I like shrubs that either have a variegated leaf or a showy
bloom. In full sun, try any of the buddleas (butterfly bushes), which has
fragrant, lilac-like blooms from mid-summer to fall (there are a couple
with a variegated leaf as well). For spring, I have a beauty bush that
blooms a fragrant pinkish white (has a variegated leaf, too) and a few
peonies in various colors.
You might also consider architectural details such as statues, bird baths,
feeders, etc. A pillar with a climbing vine or rose in the middle of your
garden gives it a focal point.
