seedlings & fertilizer

I saw a post in the last day or so that cautioned against too much or too
little fertilizer. Can anyone advise on what is just right? My seedlings are
just beginning to come up and I'd like to give them whatever help I can
(although last year's seedlings didn't get fertilized and did fine).
