I went to Costco today to purchase only to purchase meat. Either
fortunately or unfortunately, their perennials had just arrived. I bought
12 boxes of assorted perennials-4-6 plants per box at less than $7 per box.
I checked all of the boxes and the roots look healthy and most have started
to send up growth (white for lack of light). I bought Christmas ferns,
leatherwood ferns, 2 kinds of hosta, siberian iris, columbine, aruncus,
heuchera. The big question is when can I put these in the ground? They are
in peat moss sealed in plastic bags. I am on the East End of Long Island in
Zone 7 - although I consider it as zone 6 since I am so close to NY and CT.
It has been such mild winter - the ground never froze, it is really tempting
to do it soon.
Thanks for any advice.
