Re: New plant disease diagnostic aid
Technology
Saving time and money with digital plant disease diagnoses
Need to identify a plant disease? Don't mail it, email it! University
of Missouri (MU) scientists are using digital scanning technology to
provide online digital diagnoses in the Distance Diagnostic Project. The
method saves time and money for farmers and Extension specialists who
previously had to mail plant samples to the MU Extension Plant
Diagnostic Clinic. The scientists are developing guidelines for what can
be photographed and the best ways to do it. A digital camera works in
the field, but a scanner can also convert photographs to digital images
which then can be sent via email to the lab.
