If you don't have any other plants in that bed that you want to keep, you 
can try this.  Cover the bed with clear plastic and wait.  We know that 
plastic will kill anything that is trying to grow but the heat also 
germinates the lurking weed seeds and then kills them as they try to grow.  
I like this method because it is chemical free and cheap!  Of course, you 
need sunshine for it to work and patience for about two or three weeks.

Does anyone know how to sterilize(?) the soil in wooden sided raised
beds to prevent the germination of weed seeds?  The beds are about 4X4
and maybe 18 inches deep. The purpose isn't to get rid of any
