I've used Preen on most of my beds. I've noticed no damage to any
plants. And it worked, weed seeds did not germinate.
Having said that, it also keeps other seeds from germinating. I have a
few annuals that self seed and I want them to: Cleome, Nigella, and
Forget-me-nots. Some perennials do likewise: Brunnera and Mertensia for
example.
