We use hardwood mulch extensively in our gardens and have never
experienced any problems with rot in bulbs, perennials, or shrubs. We
have never taken any special steps in applying. just threw it on ,
everything seems to find its way up just fine. Been doing this for over
ten years now in a relatively wet humid area.
