I think you should be alright as far as growing them in zones 4/5. Ours seem
to do alright although we are in zone 5. All we do is mulch good around them
with a double ground hardwood mulch.
The concern we would have is that you indicated putting them in planters which
could be moved about. This seems to indicate contianers of small size which
could creat potential problems with drying out, freeze/thaw action, and a
natural winter over home for rodents. You might want to reconsider the
planters.
We would not recommend store indoors or even in a partially heated area, let
them go dormant.
