highbush blueberries

I was given ten full grown highbush blueberries two years ago. They didn't
come back too good after the first winter. A lot of the branches were dead
( these were old bushes) so I pruned off all the dead stuff and mulche with
 sawdust enriched with aged horse manure.I had to prune off about half the
height of the bushes. I checked the other day and I could see leaf buds
forming on the new shoots. I just wanted to know if the bushes will be o.k.
even though I pruned them pretty hard...Rhonda
