Admin: list usage

Well, it's been a long time since I've brought up list rules and such,
but with so many new members I think it's time for a reminder. I've been
meaning to do it for a while, but I'm so busy! :)

So anyhow, here are some guidelines that we should all adhere to, both
out of kindness to the mail servers and everyone else on the list.

o Please do not quote entire messages unless necessary. When you
respond to someone's mail, make sure that you only quote relevant
portions. Each time that excessive information is quoted, it
"pollutes the Internet" by sending out unneeded information, takes
up extra disk space on the servers, makes messages take longer
to be send, reduces the usefulness of the archives, and makes
     digest reading much more difficult.

o Stick with the subject of perennials. Trees and shrubs DO NOT have
a place on this list, and should be discussed on the woodyplants
     list (see http://www.mallorn.com/lists/subscribe.html ) for
     subscription information.

o Do NOT use color coding or MIME encoded messages when sending to
the list. I can't read them, others can't read them, and it
adds a lot of unnecessary fluff to the message. It also makes
the search engine for the mailing list archives have to work
     a lot harder.

Most of these points are mentioned in the initial welcome letter for this
list.

For other information on "netiquette," please look at

These aren't just my whimsical ramblings on how people should act, but
an actual RFC submitted to the Internet public.

Thanks,

Chris
