Re: Lavender lovers
Not to beat a dead horse, but I fear we're providing some conflicting
info on pruning lavender and I'd like to clarify the issues for Sheryl &
anyone else who's wondering. My own experience has been that pruning in
the early spring does not reduce blooming or the leafing out of the
shrub. I have three kinds, all relatively dwarf (and I want them that
way -- under 2 feet); Hidcote, Munstead, and Jean Davis (pink). Through
the summer I pick the flowers or deadhead the shrubs, but they bloom
pretty much into Fall. I don't prune in the Fall since, if we don't
have snow cover, the branches & foliage provide some protection.
If these practices are not kosher (even if they've worked for me), I'd
like to hear more from some of the experts. Or maybe practices are
different in warmer zones? Thanks, everybody. (And Chris, I hope this
discussion is legitimate here rather than in woodyplants, since so many
of us use lavender with our perennials...)
