Platycodon

When we moved to this house about 20 years ago, the previous owners had
a few patches of blue platycodons at the far end of the back yard in a
narrow raised bed under a canopy of mostly oaks. Also here were some
lily-of-the-valley, some type of (native?) spreading sunflower, St.
John's Wort, tons of wood violets. I have planted and had survive
narcissus, peonies, English ivy and some daylilies. The area only gets
sun in the morning--more in spring before the oaks unfurl. I've never
done much to the balloonflowers except remove the seed heads, certainly
not stake them. I wonder if they would seed themselves if I scattered
the ripe seeds? Maybe not with all the competition.
