Judy:

I bought a chipper/shredder for my husband for Fathers' Day two or three
years ago (clever, huh?) and I love it. I don't know how economical is
its, because we only fire it up two or three times a year. Once in
spring is almost a whole day affair, because we try to do all our
pruning and shredding at once.

But last Saturday was the day, and we ended up with about 2 1/2 (45 gal)
garbage bags of mulch. It also works for shredding leaves for the
compost heap.

I don't have any suggestions about features or brands, except consider
what size branches you will have to put through it; different models
will handle different sizes. Ours says it will shred branches up to 1
1/2 inch, but I've noticed if they're much bigger than an inch it seems
to have trouble.

I'd buy one again.
