Right you are, Gene..
I have found that they require (even fresh off the plant) two periods of
cold stratification - in other words, I sowed them in late fall when they
were ripe, left the pots outside..had one germinate the first spring and
then the rest all germinated the second spring. The first year you get
seedlings about an inch or two tall; they grow a bit more the second year
and I still do not have flowering size plants.....slow children but lovely.
This is from my supposed C. ramosa atropurpurea who, whatever her correct
name, fills the garden with a heavenly scent in late summer/early fall.
Other species may be faster.
