I live in Greenfield, MA, which is also zone 5 and just below the VT/NH
border with MA. I plan perennials, which I buy in a nursery adn
therefore they are hardened off, when I buy them. Around here the
nurseries open mid April and plants are put out as they are able to
adjust to the weather. Annuals or perennials I have started from seed I
usually do not put in until the end of May-Memorial Day. The exception
being those annuals that are cold hardy.
