On another gardening list we belong to a member wanted to use Artemisia
ludoviciana 'Valerie Finnis with Coleus (not sure of the variety) and was
told by her local garden center that;
"The plants they used are not compatible. The Artemisia likes it sunny
and dry and the coleus likes it shady and moist."
We have used coleus without a problem in mostly sunny locations in the
garden and in containers. Actually they tend to show their colors better
in the sun. While Artemisias do like it dry we have used them without a
problem with plants that like a more moist environment although always in
full sun and well drained soil. At least this has been our experience in
our location.
While we knew they had different cultural requirements we like the color
combination and went ahead and used them together successfully.
It would be interesting to hear what others have to say.
